North Star Track Senior Athlete – Josh Nichols

We would like to acknowledge and congratulate Josh Nichols, the only senior on our track team, for all of his achievements and dedication through the years while representing North Star.

Josh qualified to state all 4 years of high school.  Overall, Josh took home 6 state medals with 4 1st place and 2 2nd place.

Josh holds school records in 4 events and the triple and long jump records for Western Idaho Conference, 1A District 3, and 1A State Championships.

His junior year he set a new 1A State record in triple jump which he surpassed this year with a jump of 46’1.5”.  He broke the 1A State long jump record, previously set in 2006, with a jump of 22’4”.

Throughout the 2019 track season Josh was the top ranked triple jumper in Idaho in all classifications and was recognized as Athlete of the Week in the Idaho Statesman.

North Star does not have a track, so he spent many hours on his own finding places to train around the area, requiring a higher level of devotion and passion for the sport.

Because of his commitment to always improve, Josh received an athletic and academic scholarship to Hillsdale College in Michigan where he will continue competing in track.  We wish him all the best for his future education and track endeavors.
